EAM's asphalt mix design service helps contractors, engineers and owners land on the right mix for the job: the mix type, grade, tonnage and scheduling, matched to the project's specs and traffic. You send the project details, our team reviews them, and we follow up with a recommendation and next steps. Timing depends on the mix and the project, so the sooner we hear from you, the better.
What the service covers
For specialized projects, we offer guidance on mix selection and can adjust blends to meet performance or environmental requirements. In practical terms, that includes:
- Mix selection based on the application, traffic load and the specification you are working to.
- Grade and binder recommendations, for example when a section would benefit from polymer-modified PG 76-22 instead of a standard binder.
- Blend adjustments where a project has particular performance or environmental goals, such as recycled content.
- Tonnage and scheduling guidance so your order matches the job and your pickup window.
- Technical support through bidding and production, covering quantities, mix types and timing.
Mix options we work from
Our mix design guidance draws on the full range of materials we produce at our Gencor plant in Vero Beach. Availability is confirmed per project.
- High-traffic commercial mixes
- Residential and light-load mixes
- DOT-grade materials, as applicable
- Superpave SP-9.5, SP-12.5 and SP-19 with PG 64-22, PG 67-22 or PG 76-22 binder
- BM-1 base mix
- Specialty mixes: open-graded friction course, stone matrix asphalt and porous asphalt
- RAP-blended HMA
- Tack coat (TAC) and friction course (FC)
Details on each are on our specifications page.
How to request a mix design
The fastest route is the online request form on our contact page. It asks for:
- Your name and company.
- A phone number, which is required so we can confirm your mix and pickup window.
- An email address, if you would like written confirmation.
- Project details. This is where the quality of the answer is decided.

What to put in the project details
The more we know up front, the less back and forth it takes. Useful details include:
- Application: road, parking lot, commercial pad, driveway, HOA road, patch work.
- Traffic: cars only, delivery trucks, buses or heavy industrial loads.
- Specification: FDOT, county, city or a private engineer's spec, and the mix or binder it names if any.
- Layers and thickness: base, structural and surface courses, with compacted thickness for each.
- Area or tonnage: a rough figure from our tonnage calculator is fine.
- Location and dates: the county and target paving window.
- Pickup or delivery: whether you will run your own trucks or need hauler contacts.
How long it takes
There is no single answer, because the work depends on the request. Picking a standard mix for a residential street can often be settled in a phone call. A project that needs a blend adjustment, a specific binder or agency-level documentation takes more time. Lead time on production also depends on the mix you need and our current production schedule.
The practical advice is to reach out as early as you can, ideally before you finalize a bid. Call the plant for an estimate of timing on your specific request.
Who uses the service
Paving contractors use it most, but they are not the only ones. Engineers check whether a mix they are considering is something we produce. Developers and site contractors want to know what a commercial pad or subdivision street will need. Municipal road departments and HOA or private-road managers ask for help matching a mix to a maintenance program. Each request starts the same way: tell us the job, and we help you choose the material.
Why it matters before the bid
Choosing a mix late can cost more than time. A mix that does not match the traffic can rut or crack early, and a mix that is not available when you need it can push a schedule. Settling the mix first lets you price accurately, line up trucks and tell the owner exactly what is going down.
Quality behind the recommendation
Once a mix is set, our on-site quality program takes over and carries that recommendation through production. We sample and test mixes during production, monitor temperatures and consistency from batch to batch, check material against each project's specification and keep documentation to support contractor, developer and municipal requirements. Gencor equipment provides the stable temperature control and precise mix accuracy that keep production consistent.
